Who’s ready to start making some fun Halloween treats?! These Oreo Witch Hats are so quick and fun to make, I bet I could’ve cranked out 50 of them in 10 minutes. Sometimes cute treats can be complicated, but these witch hats are literally no-fail!
Speaking of witches, I have a funny story to share with you! One Halloween my 7 year old daughter looked at me across the breakfast table with excitement and said, “Mommy! It looks like you’re going to be a witch for Halloween this year!” Only problem was I wasn’t dressed up for Halloween, that was just my usual morning look 😂
Here’s where I could share a photo with you, but choose to move on to the recipe instead – haha!
The Oreos
You can use any variety of Oreos for these hats. I used the chocolate filled Oreos for this batch, but the green or orange cream-filled would be really cute with these hats too. Let your imagination be your guide!

The Buckle
When I first saw this idea online, I could not figure out what to use as the buckle on the witch hat until I found unwrapped mini Starburst candy at the grocery store – perfect! If you aren’t able to find the mini, regular Starburst cut into smaller pieces should work well too. I cut each mini Starburst into 4 equal pieces. It couldn’t be easier!

The Buttercream
This buttercream recipe makes a smaller batch, which is perfect for piping onto the Oreos. Cream the butter, powdered sugar, heavy cream, vanilla, and a pinch of salt until smooth and fluffy.
At this point, I panicked because I didn’t have any orange food coloring in the pantry, but I pulled out my gel food coloring and mixed equal parts of red and yellow to make this shade. Thanks art class!

Fill a piping bag fitted with a Wilton 2A frosting tip with the frosting. If you don’t have a large piping tip, you can just use a large ziplock baggie with the corner snipped off instead. In general, an opening the size of your finger tip works best.

Assembling the Oreo Witch Hats
To assemble the witch hats, pipe a small amount of frosting on top of the Oreo, press an unwrapped Hershey kiss on top of the frosting, and press a small Starburst candy on the edge of the piped frosting for the buckle of the hat.

So cute!!

Buttercream Frosting for Oreo Witch Hats
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup salted butter, room temperature
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons heavy cream
Pinch of kosher salt (about 1/8 teaspoon)
Orange food coloring (or a combination of yellow and red), I like to use gel food coloring when possible
Directions
Mix powdered sugar and butter on low speed for one minutes or until well mixed. continue beating on high speed for 3 minutes. Add vanilla and cream and beat on medium speed for 1 minute. Add food coloring according to desired color. Fill a piping bag, fitted with a Wilton 2A decorating tip,* and decorate your witch hats!
*If you don’t have a 2A decorating tip, just fill a freezer ziplock bag with the frosting and cut a hole in the corner about the size of a finger tip.
Another Halloween favorite is Slushie Punch served in a cauldron!
