Nutella Rice Crispy Treats with Sea Salt

by Emily Gutke Leave a Comment

Nutella Rice Crispy Treats with Sea Salt! Back in the good old days I would make these for school lunches, but with school online this fall for my kids, I make them just because we all need a special treat sometimes. They’re sweet, salty, and full of chocolate. In other words, I could eat the whole pan myself. I have no regrets – haha. I hope they become one of your favorites too!

Here’s how they’re made!

Start with just the basic rice crispy treat ingredients…marshmallows, butter, rice crispy cereal, and in this case, Nutella.

Melt the butter, one 10 ounce bag of marshmallows, and Nutella together over a very low heat. You want to avoid the mixture boiling, or even beginning to boil.

Once melted, add the rice crispy cereal and stir thoroughly.

I like to add a few marshmallows at the end so there are pockets of marshmallows throughout the rice crispy treat. This keeps the treats really soft and gooey.

Using a silicone spatula, spread the rice crispy treat mixture evenly into the bottom of the pan.

Spread the mixture into a foil-lined 9 x 13” pan. If you want thicker rice crispy treats, you can put them in a 9 x 9” pan instead and decrease the amount of chocolate drizzled over the top.

Drizzle with melted chocolate and sprinkle with sea salt.

These are great served right away while the chocolate on top is melted and gooey.

They’re also so good at room temperature. Store covered for up to 3 days. Enjoy, friends!

Nutella Rice Crispy Treats with Sea Salt

6 tablespoons salted butter, cut into slices
2 (10 ounce) bags of mini marshmallows, divided
1/3 cup Nutella
Pinch of kosher salt
6 cups of rice crispy cereal
4 ounces semi sweet chocolate, melted (or 1/2 cup of chocolate chips, melted)
Sea salt for sprinkling, optional

Directions

Place butter, one bag of marshmallows, Nutella, and a pinch of kosher salt on a large pot and melt over very low heat. Do not let the mixture boil, or even come close to boiling or the Nutella can seize.

Remove mixture from heat and add 6 cups of rice crispy cereal, stir until well combined. Add 1/2 cups of mini marshmallow and stir until well combined.

Pour the mixture into a 9 x 13”* pan lined with foil and sprayed with cooking spray. Using a silicone spatula, spread the mixture evenly across the bottom of the pan.

Using a spoon, drizzle with melted chocolate. Sprinkle with sea salt, if desired.

Serve immediately if you like your treats really gooey. Or store covered, at room temperature, for up to 3 days. Enjoy!!

*If you want thicker treats, you can use a 9 x 9” pan and decrease the amount of chocolate drizzled over top to 2 ounces.
