Holiday Slushie Punch

by Emily Gutke 1 Comment

This Holiday Slushie Punch has been on repeat in our house for Halloween night as long as I can remember. It just wouldn’t be the same without ladling a cup of this punch out of my giant witch’s cauldron to go along side a bowl of warm chili (see 9/23 post for chili recipe). And this recipe makes enough for 2 holiday gatherings so I usually tuck the second container in my freezer and pull it out for Christmas or New Year’s Eve dinner later in the holiday season – when things get even busier! It’s a holiday tradition I highly recommend!! ⁣

HOLIDAY SLUSHIE PUNCH:
⁣
1 cup white sugar⁣
6 cups water⁣
2 (3 ounce) packages strawberry flavored gelatin mix⁣
1 (46 fluid ounce) can pineapple juice⁣
2/3 cup lemon juice (about 5 lemons)⁣
1 quart (4 cups) orange juice⁣
2 (2 liter) bottles 7-Up or Sprite, chilled⁣ and divided
⁣
1. Bring the sugar, water, and strawberry flavored gelatin to a boil in a large pot; boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in the pineapple juice, lemon juice, and orange juice. Let cool completely. ⁣
2. Divide the mixture evenly between 2 large gallon sized ziplock bags (or equivalent container).⁣ Each of these bags of concentrate will become one serving of slushie. As I mentioned earlier, I like to use one on Halloween and save the other for Christmas or New Year’s Eve!
3. Press all of the air out of the bags and carefully close them. Lay them flat on a baking sheet in the freezer until frozen solid. ⁣
4. Remove the frozen concentrate from freezer 30 minutes before serving. Place softened concentrate in a punch bowl and pour 1 (2 liter) container of soda over 1 bag of softened concentrate. ⁣If using 2 bags of frozen concentrate at once, use 2 (2 liter) sodas.
5. Break the icy mixture up with a fork as it combines with the soda. ⁣
6. Ladle into serving glasses and serve immediately. ⁣
