Chocolate Dipped Ice Cream Cones

by Emily Gutke Leave a Comment

Chocolate Dipped Ice Cream Cones are as cute as they are easy to make! Start with some store bought ice cream cones, chocolate bark, and your favorite toppings (sprinkles, sea salt, chopped peanuts, etc). Don’t pay a hefty price at the ice cream shop for these adorable cones, make them yourself at home. Easy!

This is a really fun project for kids going stir crazy at home – they love to eat and make them. No kids at home? There is no age limit to enjoying an ice cream cone – ha! Especially in this heat. Happy Weekend everyone!

This recipe almost doesn’t need a recipe, but I’ll tell you how they’re made!

Dipping Chocolate

I’m using the term “chocolate” loosely in this recipe because I used “candy coating” that looks like chocolate. It’s also known as “chocolate bark” or even “candy melts”. I picked this particular candy coating because it was on sale at the grocery store.

You can also use regular chocolate chips or baking chocolate bars, just know that it’s a tiny bit more finicky than candy coating is. You will want to make sure the melted chocolate doesn’t get any liquid in it or it will seize up. It will also take a little longer to set up after you have dipped your cones. But it is equally delicious!

Melting the Chocolate

I melted this chocolate in the microwave in 20 second intervals, stirring in between. These four squares took about one minute and twenty seconds total. Easy!

Keep in mind, you only need a small amount of chocolate for dipping cones. A little goes a long way.

The Cone

Any store bought sugar cone will work. Just go with whatever you can find at the store.

The Toppings

This is the part of the recipe where you can really use your creativity! I used a few different types of sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, chopped peanuts, coconut, and sea salt. All great options! I’m sure you can come up with even more ideas….

Dipping the Cones

To dip the cones, push the cone straight down into the chocolate…

Pull out and tip to the side, letting excess chocolate drip off…

Immediately sprinkle with desired toppings….

And place on a parchment lined baking sheet to set up.

These cones keep for days when covered and stored at room temperature, so be sure to make a bunch!

When we’re all able to get together for celebrations again, I can see these served at birthday parties, family reunions, graduation parties, etc. Pick sprinkles to coordinate with your special event for a personalized touch.

Enjoy, friends!
